July means music and entertainment in Madrid. Summer gets off to a good start in the city with concerts, exhibits and events. Let’s take a look to the most outstanding thing to do in Madrid in July.
Madrid Gay Pride
Madrid organizes from the July 2nd to July 6th the Madrid Gay Pride week or MADO, the biggest one in Europe. Come to enjoy the party in Chueca –the gay quarter– and also participated on it mass parade on July 5th vindicating LGBT community rights.
Concerts, concerts and more Concerts
The good weather comes together with the visit of great artist to Madrid. Tom Jones is the inaugurator of the season with its concert on July 1st in Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid. Even though “Sex bomb” is a great concert, the main event this month is the One Direction show. The British band comes with its rhythmical season and its sexy appealing to drive crazy the Spanish teenagers. They will be performing on July 10th and 11th in the Teatro Real. Finally, The Lumineers, the American band will be in the Vincente Calderón Stadium on July 9th as part of it first international tour.
Veranos de la Villa 2014
Veranos in la Villa is the name of the music, theater, ballet and cinema celebrated every summer in Madrid. The festival combines different venues –Teatro Circo Price, los Jardines de Sabatini, CentroCentro Cibeles and Matadero Madrid– to display an incredible program round the city. This year program includes artist like, Jorge Drexler, Diego el Cigala, Carlos Nuñez, Chucho Valdés, Andres Calamaro, Joaquín Cortés, José Mercé, Miguel Poveda, Estrella Morente, Pasión Vega, Café Quijano and more.
Richard Hamilton Retrospective in Centro de Arte Reina Sofía
Richard Hamilton is considered by the critic one of the best artist of the 20th century. This exhibit is the most complete and ambitious ever organize around him and the most important event of the year according to the Museo Reina Sofia authorities. There will be 260 works in display comprising the artist activity between 1949 and 2011, including his most popular work “Just what is that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing” considered the first pop-art piece ever created. The exhibition will be open all summer.
Lago de la Casa de Campo
What does Madrid people do in summer without a beach? Enjoy the heat and the sun in the Casa de Campo Lake. This lake was built as a dam to provide water to the Madrid Royal Palace, but it ended up being Madrid beach.
