What to do in Madrid in April

April is a month to enjoy the most beautiful city in the world: Madrid. As you all know we –Madrid locals– love spring. We adore to go outside an enjoy the tender sun and the fresh breeze of this time of the year accompanied, of course, with tapas and a big glass of wine or vermouth. Circulo de Bellas Artes.

An interesting exhibition that brings us into the spaces used to work by eleven of the most fundamental creators of Modernity. The exhibition takes us into the intimacy of Ludwig Wittgenstein and Martin Heidegger, Edvard Grieg, Gustav Mahler, August Strindberg, Knut Hamsun, George Bernard Shaw, Virginia Woolf, Dylan Thomas, Derek Jarman, and Thomas Edward Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia studios.

Kunstmuseum de Basilea Collecion

The Kunstmuseum Basel is under renovation, and it collection will be traveling for several months around Europe. From April to September you have the opportunity to discover one of the world’s finest collections of modern art in Madrid. The collection is distributed in the Reina Sofia Museum and the Prado Museum in various temporary exhibitions with different themes, check their schedule.

  1. Support the feminist movement

April is the month of the feminist movement. Show your pride exploring the talent of several groups of women in different disciplinary areas. “Ellas Crean 2015” is a cultural event offering a multidisciplinary program in the Conde Duque around the Spanish creative women. Over 600 Spanish women artists show their work and talent to commemorate the birth of one of the most famous women in history Spanish Santa Teresa de Jesus. Also, CentroCentro houses “Feminis-Art”, a video-art exhibit in which 18 women from around the globe show us their vision of the world.

At the 14th edition of this cultural festival of alternative music, Madrid celebrates biodiversity using the city as a stage for new groups. Most of the concerts will take place in IFEMA from April 22nd to May 9th.

The Matadero film library is the stage where DocumentaMadrid 2015 is organized, from April 30 until May 10, 2015. This film festival aimed promoting the national creation of documentaries.

Carmen Opera in Teatro de la Zarzuela Madrid

The Teatro de la Zarzuela hosts the world premiere of the final assembly of the National Dance Company (CND), Carmen. It is directed and choreographed by Johan Inger. In his version of the ballet, the Swedish choreographer has focused on the issue of violence approaching it through the eyes of a uncontaminated child.

Fifty food trucks with an incredible culinary offer will meet on April 11th and 12th at the Campus of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. An opportunity to taste new flavors and discover new culinary talents in the city.

If you are walking through the center of Madrid, stop by the Real Fábrica de Ceras (Calle de la Palma, 10) where Casa Décor 2015 is taking place from April 24th to May 31st. The 50th edition of this event brings together over 200 exhibitors with the best interior design in Spain.
