CaixaForum Madrid

This formed electricity central located on the Paseo del Prado, between Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and Reina Sofia Museum, has become one of the locals’ favorite museum. This institution does not count with a collection, but it organizes temporary exhibit with a high cultural value bringing important master pieces from around the world to Spain. It is a great place to visit with children due to its incredible activities organized for them around the exhibits.

Circulo de las Bellas Artes

The CBA is one of the oldest private art institution in Madrid. It opened its doors in 1880 and since then dedicate its efforts to protect and promote the local art and artist. They have also a big auditorium where important plays are show. Even though, there is any play or any exhibit that interest of your taste, at least visit CBA and its café “La Pecera”.

Matadero Madrid

The former Madrid meatpacking facilities were transformed into a cultural center. Matadero Madrid is the headquarters of the contemporary arts movement showing incredible exhibits of art, performances, cinema, theater and concerts. It is also one of the six facilities hosting the summer festival “Veranos en la Villa” and Finge Festival.

Joaquim Sorolla House

Even though Joaquim Sorolla born in Valencia in 1863, he move to Madrid to received his formal artistic education. The city was an inspiration for him. In 1905, he bought a house in Paseo del Obelisco and after his death it became a museum around his production and his life. Now a days is one of the most interesting museum in Madrid.

National Museum of Romanticism

Located in the former Marquis of Matallana manor, this curious museum illustrated perfectly the way of living in the Romantic Madrid. The museum holds paintings of Goya, jewels, ceramics, china, fifteen pianos and the most incredible 19th-century furniture collection.

Conde Duque

This formed military barracks reborn as a cultural center in 1983, including two libraries, a newspaper library and the Contemporary Art Museum of Madrid. It is also one of the six venues hosting the summer festival “Veranos en la Villa“. Besides the libraries and the exhibits rooms, Conde Duque counts with three auditoriums were interesting shows and plays take places every week.

Centro Centro

The real name of this institution is Cybele Cultural Center for the People of Madrid, but some people called it 5C’s regarding the acronym of the name in Spanish or just “Centro Centro”. It was open in order to create a space around contemporary art and new art expressions –like video art or digital art. Also, it acts as a community center for the downtown area; among its services are reading areas with free newspapers, a library, a cafeteria, a restaurant, an auditorium and several exhibition spaces for rent.

This institution is located in the Cybele’s Palace, just in front of the famous fountain, also called Palace of Telecommunication. The building was designed in 1904 by Antonio Palacios and Joaquín Otamendi to be the headquarters of the Spanish Mail Service (Correos) and the National Phone Company (Telefónica). After the privatization of both companies the building returned to Madrid Community’s hands and this new incredible project began.The jewel in the crown of the Palacio de Cibeles is the terrace over the historic center of Madrid; it is open daily, except Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Reservation is required.

La Casa Encendida

La Casa Encendida is a private museum sponsored by Caja Madrid –a local bank. It showcase interesting temporary exhibit regarding avant-garde and contemporary art. They supported young artist showing they works and helping them develop new ideas. La Casa Encendida building is also part of Madrid history, since it was built in 1913.

Madrid Wax Museum

Madrid Wax Museum (Museo de Cera de Madrid) in one of city main attractions. Although it was opened in 1972, this museum has kept updating his characters and adding new technologies to its exhibitions constantly. Besides being next to some of your favorites celebrities –Miley Cyrus, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie or Justin Bieber– visitors will be able to ride in the Tren del Terror (Train of Terror), enjoy a ride in a Space Simulator and, discover how was Spain in the 16th century on a 3D movie.

This a great place to visit with your children in Madrid, especially if they are Real Madrid or Spanish Football National Team fans. The Madrid Wax Museum counts with a soccer-players’ collection, including figures like, Iker Casillas, Cristiano Ronaldo, David Villa, Andrés Iniesta or Fernando Torres.
